The families of young people unaccounted for after a tragic inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an excruciating period of uncertainty for official news and pleading for any details about their loved ones publicly.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of January 1st. Circulated images reveal the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Authorities have warned that it could take an extended period to formally name the fatalities of the disaster, which claimed the lives of 40 people and hurt another scores more. Officials stated on Friday that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with the process ongoing to locate the other six.
In the meantime, loved ones have been posting on social media to request information about their loved ones who were at the bar that evening.
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.
The resident of a town near the city, informed a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she said.
She continued that some of his friends had been found with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured an absolute nightmare."
The Italian government has indicated that six of its nationals remain missing.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, who hailed from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "talented young man who represented passion and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is still pending.
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother said that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"A companion said they escaped after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
One of his educators said, "I remember his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great maturity. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives permanently in the country, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to reports.
