The president-elect of the prestigious debating society has been ousted from office after losing a no-confidence vote that followed his disputed online comments about Charlie Kirk.
The motion against the student leader reached the necessary super-majority to remove him from office, according to an announcement from the organization.
The dispute erupted after the student reportedly posted messages on social media that seemed to celebrate the killing of the American conservative figure, who was fatally shot while speaking at a university in the United States.
According to reports, one social media message reportedly stated "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an extended form of the acronym for 'laughing out loud'.
The president-elect is also said to have written in a messaging group with fellow students appearing to welcome the incident.
The vote of confidence took place over the recent days, with outcomes revealed on this week.
Society announcements indicated that over twelve hundred votes were cast in favor of no confidence, while 501 were against the motion.
The announcement stated that the president-elect was considered to have resigned in following the Oxford Union's rules.
Proceedings were informally suspended early on the previous day after the returning officer was allegedly subjected to "interference, threats, and inappropriate behavior" from multiple individuals.
In a response, the student asserted that the vote tally had been stopped because election administrators believed "no legitimate and true result could be reached as a result of procedural failures".
His response categorically refuted that any person appointed by George had engaged in intimidating or disruptive behavior.
The student stated that extremely serious issues had been referred to the disciplinary committee and that he remained president-elect.
His comment added that he was "proud and thankful to have the support of significantly more than half of university members" who supported a "safe election and resist attempts to subvert democracy".
Critics have said that any failure to remove him would "signal to the world that the Oxford Union has prioritized politics over principles".
On recently, Kirk's former chief of staff presented an open letter to the society on The Charlie Kirk Show broadcast.
The message accused the union of becoming a institution where "presidents of the union openly applaud the assassination of a ideological rival".
The statement indicated that if the student were to remain in post, Kirk's allies would "personally contact every U.S. political figure who has ever graced the union's chamber and urge them never again to lend their name".
The Oxford Union had previously criticized the student's remarks after the activist's killing and stated that complaints filed against him had been forwarded for disciplinary proceedings.
The student leader had been one of several students to debate with Kirk at the union in May.
